Description

Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year. Hello! My name is Laurie Miller and I will be your child's kindergarten teacher. This is my third year teaching at Madison Academy. I was the resource room teacher for kindergarten through 5th grade for one year and I was a kindergarten teacher for one year. I am a graduate from the University of Michigan - Flint and I hold a Master's Degree in Learning Disabled Special Education. I also have an elementary certification, an early childhood endorsement, and an English endorsement. I have an array of teaching experiences from the past 9 years. I taught 3rd grade for 2 years and 2nd grade for one year at another charter school. I have worked with the Genesee Intermediate School District early childhood summer program. I was a facilitator for the Bridges to the Future Before and After School Programs for the Kearsley District, as well as a Title I Paraprofessional in the district. I also taught 9th and 10th grade Resource Room English at Davison High School. I believe these various positions have given me a vast amount of experience. My goal for each and every one of my students is for them to be successful with their academics, be confident in their abilities, have a high self-esteem, be respectful and responsible citizens, make lasting friendships, and enjoy being an important member of the Madison Academy family! I will be working with your child to help them achieve and master their foundational kindergarten skills. It should be an enjoyable and productive learning environment. Please find attached the kindergarten grade level content expectations. This is a comprehensive overview of the state of Michigan educational requirements for kindergarten. This will give you an idea of what we are supposed to learn in kindergarten. It is from the Michigan Department of Education website www.mde.state.mi.us . If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. Happy reading! I am looking forward to working with you and your child. I feel that communication is a crucial role in ensuring the success of your child. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. You may call the school at 655-2949 ext. 120 or email me at lmiller@madison-academy.org . I will try to get back with you the same day. Please check my homepage weekly for classroom information, skills we have worked on each week, and suggestions for at home support. I am very excited to begin the new school year and begin our academic adventure to educational success. Have a wonderful day! Your Partner in Teaching, Mrs. Miller
