In its early days, MainConcept specialized in video editing software for various computer systems (Amiga, OS/2, Windows 95). MainConcept released its first video codec, the highly acclaimed Motion JPEG Codec in 1995. Since then the company has focused more and more on providing high performance video codecs and associated technologies (muxing, streaming, audio codecs, etc.) on an OEM basis.Over the years MainConcept has developed a complete range of all important standards-based codecs for the PC and established long-term relationships with many leading companies all over the world.In 2005 the Elecard team joined MainConcept. With this new team of experts, MainConcept has been working on a completely new strategy: "Every Codec, Every Platform." Based on its dominating codec position in the PC market, MC is now entering the embedded and broadcast markets by porting its video codecs to many new embedded systems, doing IP cores for FPGAs, and building its own hardware platform for realtime, broadcast-quality encoding.
