The party that followed lasted a fortnight for some of the revelers and earned Malone the reputation of having a grand taste for the finer things in life. He became such a popular figure that he decided to repeat the event annual for as many years as he lived.Malone died at age 77 when his horse fell on him at the finish line of a stakes race in a friendly wager with a lifelong friend. Malone won the race. His friend bought the prize bull that year in his honor.
