You need to find a Realtor that has experience, but let's start with my own. 2 of the last 3 Realtors I dealt with, I wish I hadn't. "Ms. Imitation Gold" & "Mr. Suspended Drivers License" are the names that I now remember them by and can talk about. Both were very friendly and all seemed to be just fine until... Mr. Suspended Drivers License was a really nice guy who seemed to be listening to everything I was telling him about my search for a new home. Day One: I had done some up front work and supplied him with a list of criteria for a new home. Of course the price was at the top of the list, but so was Natural Gas Heat and hot water. Keep in mind, these were on the mandatory list I supplied him. So why did we stop at homes with electric heat? So as the story goes, we are getting carted around in his car and we pulled into a few driveways of homes that I knew without even going into "I didn't want to live there". "Oh, just take a quick peek, it'll just take a minute". -Day Two: I suspended his drivers license and I drove. I didn't know the area so he was just fine at giving me directions from the back seat. If we pulled into the driveway and I didn't like it, we didn't go in. This way there was no delays involved. Fortunately, we found just the right home and we knew within 10 minutes it was a winner for us. I wasn't rude about it, I just simply took control of this aspect of home searching. Ms. Imitation Gold was a Real Estate agent I dealt with when moving to Hazel Dell from Seattle. "You're Good as Gold" seemed to be her favorite phrase in dealing with me. So personable, she seemed to be my best friend, really easy to talk to and then came the problems. It's a long story and not really relevant except that if she had done her homework, I could have been spared a month or so of agony in closing the house. The good as gold in her talk was obviously imitation gold... So how do you get even a clue as to whether the Agent you're dealing with is any good?
