Welcome Welcome to Maret School's website. Those of us who work at Maret know that it is an intimate and caring community. We maintain a student enrollment of approximately 600 and place a premium on small classes and a remarkably low student-teacher ratio. Our faculty provides superior academic programs that challenge students while inspiring a joy of learning.Maret is the only independent, coeducational day school in Washington with students in grades K-12 all on a single campus. The site itself is historic. (To learn more about the history of Woodley, visit www.woodleysociety.org.) We value this wide range of ages and believe that it is a distinctive strength of the School. Middle and upper school students have an opportunity to work with the lower school children. At the same time, the lower school program is able to take advantage of facilities and resources not typically available in an elementary school. Teachers become acquainted with many of our children at an early age and then form lasting relationships as they follow students' progress from kindergarten through graduation. We also appreciate the value of welcoming a number of new students at first, fourth, seventh, and ninth grades. These new Maret students bring a fresh vitality to the School.For me, nothing can replace the experience of working in this city, this School, and with this group of faculty and children. As our Mission Statement notes: the interactions within a strong and diverse set of students and teachers stand at the center of a Maret education. I would suggest to you that those interactions are not only at the center but, indeed, define the essence of Maret. As you explore our website, I hope it will give you a sense of Maret's program and the more intangible qualities that contribute to an excellent education for each student. I cannot think of a school to which I would rather dedicate my energy.
