Description

There are many GED books on the market. The two listed here are my favorites for students working on the GED level. The primary mathematics textbook I use is the Steck-Vaughn GED math book. This publisher has close contact with the American Council on Education (GED Testing Service). I am very comfortable using this book with my class. The students who complete all the chapters in this book invariably do well on the GED test. The second text book I use is the Contemporary GED Mathematics books. I especially like the second and fifth chapters. The second chapter offers practice with word problems and the fifth chapter helps students use proportions as a tool for solving word problems. The geometry and algebra chapters are also very helpful. The Casio FX 260 solar is the only calculator that should be used by GED preparation students. This is the calculator that GED test centers give to students to use during the first part of the math test. If a student practices with another calculator there could be subtle differences in the way the calculator works that may confuse the GED applicant while taking the test. The Steck-Vaughn test mentioned above a nice three page handbook describing the use of this calculator. The Contemporary book has a one page overview.
