The Saint Louis University Museum of Art will host a two month solo exhibition of original works of art by the American Expressionist Painter Max R. Scharf. The event will be in September & October of 2009. Approximately 20 paintings consisting of works from Scharf's private collectors & The Scharf Family Trust will be exhibited in the Museum's beautiful historic building in St. Louis. Saint Louis University Museum of Art Acquires Max R. Scharf Painting The Saint Louis University Museum of Art added to its permanent collection the painting "Let the Games Begin" by Max R. Scharf. The painting is a gift of Paul and Elizabeth Zurlinden. In 1992 Scharf was selected as one of 24 artists to create a painting for the United States Olympic Friendship Games held in St. Louis, MO. The Painting, "Let the Games Begin", was auctioned to benefit the games. It has now passed from private collection to the SLU Museum of Art. To view the painting click on the St. Louis link above. Scharf was born in 1933 in St. Louis, Missouri USA where he currently resides with his wife, Esther. He attended Washington University's School of Fine Art in St. Louis. For over thirty years he has perfected his skills by studying his Impressionist and Expressionist idols. His abilities as a draftsman and colorist have combined to create a technique of modern impressionism unlike any other. Scharf's paintings and limited edition prints hang in private and corporate collections in over fifteen countries and the United States of America. He has participated in academic, public and private exhibitions throughout the United States and Asia. He was honored with election as a Signature Member of the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society in 1994 and in 2003 was designated Signature Artist Emeritus.
