This panel will discuss the shrinking industry and its impact on the insurance company, agent/broker industries and the risk management community. According to Nancy Carini, of Conning & Company, the 1,100 p/c groups will decline by 25% in five years and be cut in half in ten years. A.M. Best & Company indicates that the insurer industry groups shrunk by 8% to 10% in 1999 and expects one-third of the remaining groups to lose operating autonomy by 2005. Some 10 to 12% of the remaining groups, those under more immediate pressure, may lose their autonomy within one to two years.
