Members Advantage Credit Union was founded in 1962 in the basement of Queen Of All Saints Catholic Church in Michigan City, Indiana. Our name was Michigan City Queen Of All Saints Parish Catholic Federal Credit Union. In the beginning, only parishioners and their immediate families of Queen of All Saints were accepted as members. In order to continue our growth we opened our field of membership in 1979 to the remaining four Catholic Churches in Michigan City and changed our name to Michigan City Catholic Federal Credit Union- a name which best represented our entire membership base. As our Credit Union continued to grow, in 1985, we expanded our field of membership to include employees of our cities Fire & Police Departments, the medical profession, printing companies, and various other businesses throughout our community. It was at this time we realized we needed to change our name once again to include this diverse group. There was also a need to change our licensing charter from a federal to a state charter. Doing this would allow our Credit Union to expand and allow more businesses to join us than those which were not allowed when we were a Federal Chartered Credit Union. So, in March of 1997 we changed our Charter from a Federal Credit Union to a State Credit Union and changed our name as well. Our name was changed to Members Advantage Credit Union. We believe this new name represents all of our members and the many other businesses and organizations which have joined our field of membership but were not affiliated with a Catholic Church.Members are what you are considered when you have an account at a Credit Union. You're not a customer, you're an owner and a member. As member you have a voice and a vote. You vote for the Board of Directors and the Supervisory Committee, these are people who are also members, people, who volunteer their time to help run your credit union. These volunteers, whom you elect - represent you and work with the management team. They implement the planning and development of your Credit Union. They determine and set the rates you pay for a loan and how much interest you receive on your deposits, as well as, ensuring your credit union is operating safely and soundly.Members Advantage Credit Union is a co-operative, non-profit, not-for charity, but-for-service financial institution. We were organized to provide all our members with a place to save and to borrow at reasonable and affordable rates. You must be eligible to join our Credit Union through our field of membership. You may be related to someone in our field of membership or within the field of membership yourself. Persons who join our Credit Union are owners of the Credit Union. There are no outside stockholders - therefore, Members Advantage Credit Union is totally committed to satisfying the financial needs of all its members. Our members are our owners !
