Professor Rice's intellect and tenacity have inspired a generation of people." Rice, who served under President George W. Bush from 2005 to 2009, is a professor at Stanford University. Louis Farrakhan to speak in Memphis Oct. 18 - The Commercial Appeal Nation of Islam minister Louis Farrakhan will be in Memphis Oct. 18 to commemorate the 14th anniversary of the Million Man March. Farrakhan will be keynote speaker for the Holy Day of Atonement at 2 p.m. at the Memphis Cook Convention Center. The Million Man March brought nearly 2 million men to the nation's capital to demonstrate the willingness of black men to to accept responsibility to change behaviors and to strive to make better communities. Economic development conference set - The Commercial Appeal Capitalizing on last year's success, organizers of the second annual Economic Development Fair expect an even larger turnout at the upcoming conference. The event kicks off Aug. 26 with "Jazz on the River," an executive business reception featuring musical entertainment by Joyce Cobb. The mixer will be 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Memphis Cook Convention Center, and will be followed by two days of seminars and workshops. It really is All About Women - The Commercial Appeal An effort launched seven years ago in response to Tennessee's poor showing on a national women's report card arrives in Memphis Saturday with 12 hours of health screenings, how-to workshops, hands-on demonstrations and fitness classes. Dubbed All About Women, the event is free.
