In 1899, Yasutami Yamada founded a small pharmacy in Osaka, Japan: "Shintendo Yamada Anmin Pharmacy", the company that in 1949 would become Rohto Pharmaceutical Company, Limited. Even from its very humble beginnings, the Company was an innovator in over-the-counter medicines and consumer healthcare products. Today, along with being a leading manufacturer and marketer of eye drops in the world; the ROHTO name is synonymous with quality consumer healthcare products.
