Kevin has an underwriting background that incorporates insurance and reinsurance responsibilities. In partnership with Sue for the last 20 years, Kevin has focused on the ability to provide client partners with underwriting ideas and solutions that have consistently led to successful production and underwriting results.

From our founding of Equinox in 1994 Sue Whalen and I observed the market need to expand from a reinsurance focused platform to insurance. Meridian Management Group, LLC, was founded in 1999 and is a subsidiary of Equinox Management Group, Inc., a reinsurance facility management company. Specialty reinsurers had an appetite for travel insurance business, but some of the distributors and carriers in that emerging market were struggling to manage their business profitably.

Our specialty line expertise, coupled with the business unit leadership experience of our key people, enable us to manage programs “from soup to nuts”: product development and underwriting management, contracting with distributors, overseeing administration and appropriate carrier financial reporting.

Jeff has spent his entire career in underwriting or financial roles in developing specialty lines business, whether in an insurance or reinsurance capacity. Over the past 21 years, he has worked with several insurance organizations, including serving in product manager, chief underwriter and chief operating officer roles.

With over 35 years of specialty insurance and reinsurance management experience in underwriting and product development, Sue leads strategic and key business partner development operations for Meridian. She began her career in accident and health insurance at AIG and left in 1990 to become President of Hanleigh Management Group, Inc., a special risk MGU. In 1994, Sue and Kevin Leys formed Equinox Management Group, Inc., and acquired certain insurance and reinsurance facilities from Hanleigh; and, in 1999, Equinox spun off all insurance activity into Meridian Management Group, LLC.
