Description
I bring to my work a commitment to help people create the lives that they want. Therapy is a co-creative process wherein you and I work together to create what you want in your life. The therapeutic relationship becomes a place to heal and remove old patterns of behavior and limiting thinking that no longer help you. Therapy sessions are safe, supportive, and yet challenging. I incorporate knowledge and skill from different psychological foundations: transpersonal, client-centered, family systems and phenomenological. I understand symptoms as the individual's creativity in dealing with often overwhelming emotional pain. I am trained in a variety of techniques. "Talk therapy" helps individuals verbally express themselves, includes cognitive work, psycho-educational, connecting and validating work, and asserting oneself. Expressive therapies help you move into feeling states, reconnect with your inner resources, and express yourself. Relaxation develops breathing and imagery skills that help with managing stress and unwanted negative emotional states, helps you reconnect with inner resources, and helps you stay grounded and present in your life. EMDR is useful for both healing old pain, including removing negative thoughts and belief systems, and strengthening & installing positive emotional states such as mastery, competence, contentment, joy. Together, we will decide what course of therapy will work best for you.Eating disorders, anxiety & panic attacks, depression, co-dependency, trauma recovery, couples counseling, step and blended family issues, family therapy, and play therapy for children. I am also trained in energy work, hypnotherapy, and EMDR. I received my Doctoral degree from Saybrook Graduate School & Research Center and my Masters degree from Antioch University. I love to teach and have presented to professional and lay audiences on a variety of topics including self-esteem, stress management, eating disorders, relationship building, parenting, healing for the professional, family therapy, and play therapy for children. I bring to my work over 24 years experience in helping individuals, couples, and families create and maintain positive change. I look forward to hearing from you and, if it fits for you, working together.Writing credits include my doctoral dissertation: "A Phenomenological Psychological Analysis of Multiple Experiences of Bulimia," (2000); "The Acquisition of Bulimia: Childhood Experience," The Journal of Phenomenological Psychology, Volume 36 (2005)
