Metric Mechanic Incorporated was founded in 1976 by Jim C. Rowe as an import automotive repair business specializing in what was then, a little known car in the Midwest - the BMW. Jim's appreciation for the BMW was always focused on the engine, transmission and drivetrain systems; so it wasn't long before his true impulse to create performance modifications for BMW enthsiasts emerged. Mail order activities began in 1985 with our first nationally available product for BMWs - a durable 4 speed transmission rebuild for the 2002. Further transmission rebuilds for 4 and 5 speeds were developed along with head porting techniques during the mid 80's. By 1986 we began shipping complete engines and the years up until 1990 saw the evolution of ancillary drivetrain upgrades for brakes, clutch, exhaust, carburetor, & differential components.
