Description

For more than 20 years, the Milwaukee area has depended on Mill Valley Recycling. The business initially started over 100 years ago with owner, Joanne Beck’s grandfather, who started their legacy with a horse and buggy. Her father carried the traditions onto his son, Jordan. Jordan invited his sister, Joanne, into the business, giving her a job and the ability to raise her daughter well. The biggest gift Jordan gave Joanne, she said, was independence and strength. “Jordan taught me the scrap business and I learned from the best. All three men paved the way for the future of scrap iron and metal recycling in Milwaukee,” said Joanne. Jordan recently passed away, and Joanne continues to carry on her brother’s hardworking, dedicated legacy, and is one of the only women in scrap metal. “I carry on the dream of what my brother built, with just him and one truck. He will forever be in my prayers as one of the best scrap metal men in this town, he was the true scrap king,” said Joanne. Mill Valley Recycling is a small, family-run business that believes that customers come first. Joanne has seen many changes in the industry in the last 15 years. New laws and regulations sometimes seem unfair to law abiding citizens, and Mill Valley Recycling works with the local police and city to maintain a happy medium. They are committed to being a business of pride and dedication to the city, to the customers and to keeping the environment cleaned up. Mill Valley Recycling has been the recipient of community service awards by the WNOV Toys for Joy campaign and Safety Campaign, the Neighborhood Children’s Sports League, and is a member of the Better Business Bureau of Wisconsin .
