Miller & Chevalier was founded in 1920 as the first federal tax practice in the United States. For more than 90 years, the firm has successfully represented the most sophisticated corporate clients in all facets of federal income taxation. Miller & Chevalier’s Tax Department serves clients headquartered in every corner of the U.S. and throughout the world and over the past several years has represented nearly one-third of the Fortune 100 and nearly 20 percent of the Global 100.

We have a strong tradition of pro bono representation and have always recognized that each of our lawyers has a professional obligation to provide pro bono legal work. Since becoming one of the first signatories to the American Bar Association Law Firm Pro Bono Challenge, we have consistently met our pledge to devote three percent of our billable hours to pro bono work. Pro bono matters are a critical component of our lawyers’ professional development, and the majority of our lawyers personally take part in the provision of pro bono legal representation.

In addition to full-scale representation with briefing and argument in the United States Supreme Court and United States Federal Courts of Appeals, we provide advisory litigation services, including strategic guidance at the early stages of a case by shaping important statutory issues with an eye to subsequent appellate considerations. We have also been asked to revise appellate briefs prepared by other counsel and to provide expert advice on Supreme Court or appellate strategy and procedure in important cases.
