We can only guess what interesting places and events these old scales and gadgets and pans and pottery have seen.Which is probably why browsing through junk-tique stores and flea markets is so much fun. We've created this area to help you get started in the hobby or to expand your knowledge of collectibles if you're already among the millions of Americans who find it so fascinating. We'll be focusing on items you're apt to find at yard sales and flea markets - things that are easy to afford and don't take much room to display. If we hear from enough of you saying you'd like to see us expand this area we'll be glad to periodically add new pictures and information on interesting kitchen items. Meanwhile, we'd love to hear about your experiences collecting kitchen antiques. Maybe you've discovered a real gem in grandma's attic or at the last rummage sale at the church. Unless you're into collectibles to make a little extra "egg money" you'll probably concentrate on categories of items you personally find really interesting. But it's nice to know you may come across some things at garage and rummage sales which are worth a surprising amount. So, they might not only be fun and intriguing to have around, they might also be worthwhile from an investment standpoint. The only way to know is to know a lot about the different kitchen items, which ones are the most rare, and which are potentially the most valuable. You might even have forgotten you have a few potential treasures tucked away in your pantry or cellar. Things like certain old toasters, irons and Mixmasters from the 1920's, 30's and 40's can be surprisingly valuable. Other collectibles that are really hot right now are old Bakelite kitchen radios, and metal lunchboxes. You might also keep an eye out for unusual kitchen items made of plastic, chrome and hand-hammered aluminum. Look for items that stand out because of their bright colors or unusual designs. Be sure to ask your mother, or grandmother or aunt about how they did things in the kitchens of the good old days. Their recollections could take you on a fascinating journey.
