John Love, Senior Location Manager and Manufacturing Operations Manager of Federal Heath Sign, accepted the Texas Manufacturing Assistance Center’s (TMAC) Customer Performance Excellence Award to during a ceremony January 20th at the company’s manufacturing plant at 2300 State Highway 121 in Euless. The TMAC Customer Performance Excellence Award recognizes Texas-based companies for their continuous improvement to upgrade their workforce and manufacturing practices. Federal Heath Sign operates four production plants (two in Texas) and has 20 locations nationwide. The award was presented by Mercedes Mayer, District Director for the office of State Representative Todd Smith, Texas House District 92. “I am proud to have such a company as Federal Heath Sign represented among our constituents,” said Ms. Mayer. A flag that had flown at the State Capitol was presented in addition to the award and a commendation letter. Federal Sign began in 1901, when its founders revolutionized the industry by using incandescent lighting. Today, Federal Heath is a global industry leader, providing custom signage and related services to national and international customers. They work with high profile customers in retail, restaurant, hotel, finance, petroleum, automotive, corporate identification and gaming markets by providing innovative, comprehensive and consistent solutions to sign products, site conversions, image upgrades and maintenance requirements. “It’s been very exciting to witness the growth of Federal Heath Sign over the past several years,” noted Kevin Stotmeister, President & CEO of Federal Heath Sign. “Even with reduced 2009 revenues, our profits actually increased in the 20%-25% range. It’s such an honor that someone from Representative Smith’s office took the time to honor our company and achievements. We need more good news about manufacturing,” said Stotmeister. “We need to get the message out that manufacturing provides good jobs, significantly contributes to our state and national GDP and is responsible for nearly 70% all of private sector research and development.” (Source: Texas Association of Manufacturers) Federal Heath Lean Development Manager Rick Foreman has had a relationship with TMAC for the past five years, utilizing their manufacturing specialists to support and validate increased production efforts, decreased cycle time, and increased inventory turns using a variety of results-driven Lean Manufacturing techniques. Mark Sessumes, TMAC account manager, said “Federal Heath’s dedication and belief in the power of continuous improvement leads the way for the business to thrive in difficult times.” Sessumes also noted the support of top management in creating and sustaining a culture of change and employee empowerment as a key contributor to their overall success. TMAC is a unit of The University of Texas at Arlington’s College of Engineering and part of UT Arlington’s Automation & Robotics Research Institute, located in east Fort Worth.
