In 1920 Ignatz Rosenzweig came to America from Europe. A fine woman's tailor like his father, he had little trouble finding work in Brooklyn, N.Y. He and his wife Ester (a dressmaker) opened their first tailor shop and dry cleaning store in 1922. Ernest Fried arrived in this country in 1939. Through his Aunt he met the Rosenzweigs, worked for them and married their daughter Vera. After WWII Ernest attended the New York School of Dry Cleaning and opened Five Town Cleaners in Woodmere, N.Y. Another store, Orchid Cleaners, was opened in Massapequa, N.Y. in 1955. Minute Man Cleaners, also in Massapequa, was purchased in 1971. Ernest's son, Bob, grew up working in the family business and after a short career as a junior sportswear buyer he also attended the New York School of Dry Cleaning. He then moved to Arizona in 1984 and has been serving the East Valley's dry cleaning needs ever since. Carriage Cleaners was renamed Minute Man Cleaners in 1998 after ten years of operation. It served the local community in Mesa as well as Tempe, Chandler, Gilbert, and Ahwatukee Foothills with pick up and delivery to homes and offices. In 2006 Bob chose to close his retail location and offer high quality dry cleaning strictly through his pick up & delivery service. 2008 represents the twentieth year of this service. Bob retired as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Western States Dry Cleaners and Launderers Association in 1997, having received special recognition for over ten years of service, and is a lifetime member.
