Moorefield Police Find Three Pounds of Pot On Friday, Sept. 24, members of the Moorefield Police Department conducted surveillance and made three arrests at a residential location on Adams Street within the municipality. Officers witnessed Luis Roberto- Robles, 30, of Moorefield and John Waltrick, 54, of Petersburg, consume a substance appearing to be marijuana in the yard of the Adams Street location. Contact with Roberto-Robles and Waltrick found that both were consuming marijuana. Both were arrested at that time. The Adams Street residence was then searched whereupon officers discovered approximately three pounds of a substance appearing to be marijuana. Another resident of the Adams Street address, Diane Brown, 39, of Moorefield, was also arrested in connection with the discovery of the marijuana. K-9, Ruckus aided in the search of the residence. All were transported to the Potomac Highlands Regional Jail in lieu of bond............. Commissioners Express Concern About Day Report Center Oversight By Jean A. Flanagan Moorefield Examiner A member of the Community Corrections Board is listed as a contract employee of the Day Report Center. Since the CCB oversees the DRC, members of the Hardy County Commission regard the situation as a conflict of interest. In addition, the Hardy County Commissioners opposed the CCB’s proposed personnel policy because it is different from the one in place in Hardy County. The Hardy County Commission met in regular session on Tuesday, Oct. 5, and were joined by members of the Community Corrections Board and two Hampshire County Commissioners. The DRC is an alternative to jail for nonviolent criminal offenders and those who cannot post bail prior to trial. Hardy and Hampshire counties share grant funding to implement the DRC. The CCB consists of members of law enforcement and the office of probation, representatives from the Hampshire and Hardy County commissions, as well as attorneys and behavioral health care professionals from both counties......... Candidate Forum Scheduled On Tuesday, Oct. 19, Hardy County voters will have the chance to hear from, and question, candidates running in local and state political races. The Hardy County Chamber of Commerce, with its partners Summit Community Bank and WELD Radio, will host a Meet the Candidates event from 5:30 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, in the historic McCoy’s Grand Theatre, 121 N. Main St. in Moorefield. The event is open and free to the public. Light refreshments will be offered in the theater lobby from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m., with the forum set to begin at 6:30. Candidates running in contested races for County Commission, Circuit Court Judge, State Senator, US House of Representatives and US Senator have been invited. WELD Radio will broadcast the event live on 101.7 FM. Curtis Durst of WELD will moderate the forum. The HCC is currently accepting questions from the general public that will be posed to candidates. Questions will be asked by the moderator during the forum.......
