Mosaica strengthens nonprofits and philanthropic institutions by provide cutting-edge and relevant organizational development support. We provide organizational development assistance to nonprofits in the areas of strategic planning, board development, fundraising, human resources, fiscal management and evaluation, organizational re-structuring and other areas. We provide assistance to philanthropic institutions in the areas of evaluation.

Mosaica provides a variety of training to nonprofits. Training topics include, but are not limited to: Board roles and responsibilities, program planning and management, evaluation, volunteer management, effective supervision, financial management, and resource development. We provide training workshops for the staff, Board, and volunteers of individual nonprofit organizations as well as groups of organizations. Whether Mosaica is providing training for one nonprofit or a group of nonprofits, we tailor all training to meet the needs of the organization(s). We never use a “cookie-cutter” approach, but instead ensure our materials and examples are customized to both the type of work organizations are engaged in (e.g., youth development, serving immigrants, addressing access to health care, etc.) as well as where the organizations are in their development life cycle. Our training workshops are designed to build specific nonprofit management and leadership skills, as well as to expose participants to new ideas and strategies for better serving their communities and to encourage cooperation among diverse nonprofit organizations.

Founded in 1994 by Emily Gantz-McKay, Mosaica’s original goal was to provide tools to nonprofits to build just, inclusive, and thriving communities and societies. Mosaica’s founder was a senior vice president at the National Council of LaRaza who had observed the growing multiculturalism of communities and organizations and the large number of nonprofits who had no umbrella and no access to needed advice and support. She determined that there was an unmet need for a genuinely multicultural nonprofit established specifically to help other nonprofits – especially small nonprofits, emerging groups, and organizations serving low-income people and communities of color. She envisioned an organization that might assist grantmakers and government agencies, and encourage links across the sectors. She emphasized the importance of helping to prepare nonprofit leaders to work effectively across cultures.
