Plus, with over 40 years experience of whitewater rafting on California’s most popular river, we’ll make sure your rafting experience is safe and memorable.

The Mother Lode River Center supports the Headwaters Institute and its mission. We make every attempt to ensure our guides benefit from their seminars by encouraging and subsidizing their participation. For this reason our company has the highest percentage of participation by our guides of any company and our goal is to reach 100%. Over the years Mother Lode has provided a location for the seminars, our staff has regularly served as seminar coordinators, and Scott Underwood, our President has volunteered as an advisor.

Eco-tourism, which can be defined as enjoying the resource while acting to preserve it for future generations, is the purpose of our company. We are proud that over the past forty plus years our participants have written 20,000+ hand-written letters and helped save 12 California Rivers to date. This is a record unequaled in the river industry and is rivaled only by Friends of the River, California’s foremost river conservation organization. We attribute this to our dedication to ECOS and the magical power of rivers.

The purpose of our company has always been to promote the conservation of rivers. We at Mother Lode share a love of rivers, and the most powerful reason is our direct experience of them. Rivers have become our teachers. They have humbled us, transformed us, and in the process we have become deeply connected to them. Whitewater rafting requires focus, precise teamwork, enhanced powers of observation, and making wise choices in challenging situations. Like Alan Shepard viewing Earth from space, once you see rivers clearly, you cannot imagine allowing the destruction of such a vital resource.
