National HealthCare (NHC) was founded in June 1971 by Dr. Carl Adams. Dr. Adams, a physician and lifelong resident of Tennessee, had a vision to provide higher quality healthcare services for seniors. Presently, NHC manages 76 long-term healthcare centers, 32 homecare programs, 7 independent living centers, and 23 assisted living communities nationwide. Dr. Adams began his vision by adding skilled nursing services, registered nurses, and rehabilitative services to NHC healthcare centers. Along with providing high quality healthcare services at each center, Dr. Adams also developed the first computerized patient assessment program and excellence program for all of its healthcare centers. To date, these programs continue to exceed state and federal regulations. As a result, NHC’s Quality Assurance Program has been recognized as one of the best in the country. Most recently Dr. Adams founded The Foundation for Geriatric Education (TFGE) to encourage the development of geriatric education in medical schools and instituted a dietetic internship program that NHC continues to sponsor.
