Description

Nancy began her communications career as director of marketing of the Urban Land Institute. There, she designed and managed an extensive direct mail program for the sale of books and memberships. During her four years with ULI, publication sales soared. Membership promotional materials she wrote contributed to record numbers of new members in all categories. In addition, Nancy wrote and served as creative director of ULI's award-winning annual reports. She left the Institute to provide independent marketing consultation to the American Resort and Residential Development Association. The membership materials and direct selling program she designed for ARRDA helped achieve record-breaking member growth. A year later, Nancy was appointed director of publications and public relations at the International Franchise Association. There, she was managing editor of the monthly tabloid, "Franchising World." She also did considerable copywriting and served as creative director for the development of conference and publication sales literature. Departmental revenues tripled during her tenure. She left the International Franchise Association to study advertising design at Northern Virginia Community College. While she completed course work in typography, print technology, color, layout, and ad design, Nancy did consulting work for the Flexible Packaging Association. At FPA she wrote and designed the monthly journal, developed artwork and copy for conference and membership sales, prepared press releases, and advised staff on marketing. Nancy established Liberty Communications on January 1, 1984, and in mid-1984, with the introduction of the Macintosh computer, she added electronic design to the basic writing and marketing portfolio. Today, Nancy owns a full complement of computer hardware and software. In addition to other clients, Nancy has worked extensively for Communications Concepts, serving as managing editor of the award- winning newsletter "Communications Manager," as contributing editor for "Writing Concepts," and as a judge in the APEX Awards for Communications Excellence. As such, she has interviewed numerous corporate and non-profit communicators and businesses executives across the country and frequently reported on professional communications seminars. For eight years, her weekly columns on franchising were published in the Money section of "USA Today." She also wrote extensively on homebased business for that newspaper. Beginning in 1997, Nancy began a 12-year stint with the American Nursery & Landscape Association. In that role, she managed, wrote, edited, and designed that association’s monthly magazine, four division newsletters, numerous special reports, the annual reports, and four electronic newsletters. Her articles included interviews with industry experts and such in-depth pieces as her February 2008 review of “cloud” software options available in Web 2.0. Since 1998, she also has been the editor of Marketing AdVents, the monthly magazine of the Direct Marketing Association of Washington, the largest regional organization of direct marketers in the country.
