So. This is the portion of our program where I take a look at the Diamond Shipping List for next week and spout off about the books I will likely be buying. The list is not final, so I might miss things or get some books in the wrong week. And these are the books I'm interested in reading, not a guide to the finer points of the comics medium. So no hate mail. I'm warning you. Anyway, on with the show... Aquaman #8 -- This one's lost me, really. Between the confusing plot and the truly hokey dialogue, I just don't know why I'm still bothering to pick up this title. Although this issue has a gorgeous cover by Ethan Van Sciver. Batman Adventures #4 -- Ty Templeton continues to deliver the most consistently enjoyable Batbook on the market. I love the Penguin as mayor subplot, as well as the Ra's al Ghul plot, which looks to be coming to a head this issue. If you like your Bat creepy but not completely crazy, check out this title. Batman Gotham Knights #43 -- Oooohh, a Jason Todd as Robin story! You know, for one of the most hated characters in all of pop culturedom, JT sure gets a lot of page time lately. Of course, Beatty and Company might just be whipping up the conspiracy theorists who think that Hush (see Loeb/Lee's Batman) is the FBW returned from the dead. Either way, Beatty kicked booty with the previous issue of GK -- here's hoping he makes it a trend. Catwoman : Selina's Big Score SC -- Finally! I can't count the number of times I've had to physically restrain Necris to keep him from buying the hardcover edition. Catwoman is one of the best reads on the rack right now, and this prologue to the monthly comic features the gorgeous art (and writing) of Darwyn Cooke. Justice League : A New Beginning TP -- I got such a charge out of Formerly Known as the Justice League #1 last week that I can't wait to read the Giffen/DeMatteis originals. Now, instead of raiding backissue bins, I can just pick up this collection. And it won't even smell funky! Superman : Metropolis #6 -- Although he's been sucking air pretty bad on the X-Men, Chuck Austen has crafted an intriguing tale of the B13 tech, the spirit of Lex's daughter and the modern Jimmy Olsen. I'm surprised that I've liked it as much as I have, but this title has been my only interest in the Superman books as of late. Teen Titans #1 -- I've been waiting for the new Titans book since it was announced by DC last fall. Geoff Johns is the king of superhero books, and I am lusting to see what he can do with the best teen characters in the DCU in -- oh, 20 years. Plus McKone's art kicked ass on Exiles and looks just as sharp here. The Possessed #1 -- Not sure what to make of Possessed, but I'm willing to give it a try. Most of the horror comics I've read recently just seem hokey, especially those dealing with demonic possession. Still, the art I've seen from the series looks great, and Johns rarely fails to deliver a good read. Amazing Spider-Man #55 -- Straczynski has been keeping me entertained on ASM, even though I don't consider the book in my top five anymore.
