“Many students at New Way Academy have significant issues with motor skills,” shares Head of Upper School and Coach Mike Walker. This makes the event especially challenging—and rewarding. “Organizing this event is a challenge because we have to carefully match students’ needs and abilities with their goals.” Students have collected pledges to assist their school in raising money for various types of playground and athletic equipment for student use. The 2010 Walk/Bike-A-Thon raised nearly $15,000 to benefit New Way’s programs.

As a child and family counselor, I believe I have the best job in the world. I love working with children and families, because I get to see the growth a child can make in a short period of time. I enjoy providing art and play therapy activities that help children work through problems, be creative, and learn strategies to use for a lifetime.

New Way Academy takes a specialized approach to educating students with learning differences. We consider the unique needs and strengths of each student as we develop Individualized Education Plans (IEP’s) that help remediate deficits while developing talents and celebrating successes. Each student's educational plan is developed after the New Way team evaluates classroom performance, cognitive ability, educational achievement, learning style, language skills, and motor development.

Corporate Tax Credit Program Since 2009, corporations and insurance companies with a tax liability to the State of Arizona can redirect up to 100% of their liability to a scholarship fund for children with learning disabilities. This is a dollar-for-dollar credit against the corporation’s Arizona state income tax obligation. Corporations do not have to be headquartered in Arizona, but simply have a tax liability to the State.

From speech and language therapy to a variety of specialized reading programs, our students receive a comprehensive intervention program that meets their individual needs. New Way also offers a variety of programs that go beyond the school day to develop the whole child.
