Few years ago, I got a call from my client wishing to cancel health insurance because they found something much cheaper. They tell me the new insurance company will cover the entire family for $99 per month rather than several hundred per month. I said that was impossible, but they keep telling me that is what the salesperson promised. After further research, I found out the plan they were selling for $99 per month/per family is not a insurance plan but a “discount plan”. I called few of their network doctors to see if they actually get discounts. None of them heard of the company they supposed to have contracted with. In addition, this particular company have been fined multiple times by regulators and sued by numerous consumers for misrepresentation. I immediately notify my client. She tried to cancel but they keep deducting money from her checking account. It took her 3 months to cancel the policy. She never got a refund.
