Description
Next Wave Films was started in 1997 to provide support to new filmmakers making ultra-low budget English-language features around the world. Films are submitted to us after they have been shot and there is a rough cut. In addition to finishing funds, we provide assistance during post-production, and then help filmmakers implement festival and press strategies, secure domestic and international distribution, and find financing for subsequent features.
In 1996, Geoff founded the multimedia production company, Imaginal and is the president of Rhythm Films. Geoff was the director and producer for the feature length documentary about play and screen writing, "The Colony", which featured Pulitzer Prize award winning playwright Marsha Norman along with NY/LA writers Roger Hedden and James McClure. He has a script in the second round for the 2002 Sundance Filmmakers Lab and is writing two more concurrently and hoping to keep the characters between the two straight.
Roger Weisberg joined Thirteen/WNET in 1977 as a producer of the Emmy-winning series, HELP YOURSELF. He produced dozens of programs on a broad range of subjects including aging, domestic violence, juvenile justice, consumer fraud, health care, the environment, child welfare, and urban poverty. Since 1980, he wrote, produced, and directed twenty documentaries through his independent production company, Public Policy Productions. These documentaries have won over sixty awards including a Peabody, an Emmy, and duPont-Columbia award.
Jackie Roth, Coordinating Producer, was born to deaf parents, signed from birth, and learned to lip read and speak extraordinarily well. Thus she functions equally well in the hearing world and the Deaf Culture world into which she was born. Jackie has experienced firsthand the conflicts and issues we will raise in SOUND AND FURY, making this documentary a work of passion for her. She has been an educator, administrator and consultant in the field of deafness, having trained many professionals in the area of communications and deafness.
