The Leisure Information Network is a national non-profit organization established in 1995. LIN is dedicated to collecting, adding value and disseminating information about recreation, parks, and healthy living in Canada, and is the home of the National Recreation Database . LIN supports the online exchange of information among recreation and healthy living practitioners through its web site, listservs and social media sites.
The Aboriginal Sport Circle (ASC) is Canada’s national voice for Aboriginal sport, which brings together the interests of First Nations, Inuit and Metis peoples. With branches across Canada, it has coordinated major events such as the National Aboriginal Hockey Championship and the Aboriginal Sports Awards. The Aboriginal Sport Circle's board of directors consists of 26 members from Canada's provinces and territories. The ASC has three main priorities: Athlete Development, Coaching Development, and Recognition of Excellence. The ASC adopts an athlete-centered approach to its programs; support for athlete development is of primary importance to the organization. Each year, we bring together Aboriginal athletes from across the country to participate in high performance competitions and training camps. These events are designed to offer promising young athletes the experience of competing and training in an elite, high performance environment.
Native Way Training Services (NWTS) is a federally incorporated service business located in the Nation’s Capital, Ottawa, Ontario. Owned and operated by Isabelle Aubé, this national company specializes in the promotion of health and fitness for Aboriginal populations using cultural values. NWTS specializes in creating, adapting and delivering training resources in both English and French for First Nations, Inuit and Métis populations across Canada. Among the other services offered are professional development workshop series for fitness professionals, Customer Service and Marketing training among many other valuable workshops. Native Way Training Services also provides Leadership Workshops, Organizational Workgroup Facilitating Services and First Nations Community Consulting Services.
Dr. Lucie Lévesque's intervention and research setting is the community. Her research approach is participatory. Over the past 15 years, she has mainly focused on physical activity intervention effectiveness evaluation from an ecological and holistic perspective. She is especially interested in enhancing the accessibility of physical activity opportunities for youth and has a keen interest in working with Indigenous communities to eliminate health disparities related to physical inactivity. Although most of her federally-funded research is in Canada, she has also collaborated with researchers in Mexico and has had the opportunity to train Mexican students and researchers interested in physical activity promotion and obesity prevention.
