In 1936 Wilfred Onions and Valmer Bouchard, two ambitious architects from McGill University, teamed up to fulfill an epic vision: To turn their dreams into living, enduring history in Bermuda. They realized their vision over the next 20 years defining the internationally acclaimed Bermuda aesthetic. They instituted a “sense of place” driven culture that would set the foundation for OBMI today.

Today, we continue to treat architectural design and planning as a privilege and an opportunity for greatness. Like our founders, we enter every project with a great respect for its site. Our philosophy says that only with the utmost sensitivity to its natural environment, culture and history will a site become a place with a story and a soul. It is through this thoughtful and thorough application of creativity that our clients’ visions become history.

Over the past 75 years, OBMI has established design offices throughout the Caribbean and created a Miami office to focus on global growth. Recent history has seen the addition of an Abu Dhabi and Bogota, Colombia office to service OBMI’s growing client list in the Middle East & North Africa and Central & South America, respectively.
