Description
Educated at Harvard (AB), at Cambridge (MA), and at Oxford (DPhil) as a Rhodes Scholar, Professor Basker taught at Harvard for seven years before coming to Barnard College, Columbia University. Formerly the Ann Whitney Olin Professor of English, in 2006 he was appointed the Richard Gilder Professor of Literary History. Among his many publications are Tobias Smollett (1988) and Tradition in Transition (1996), Amazing Grace: An Anthology of Poems About Slavery (2002) and Early American Abolitionists (2005).
