Company History: From Disco To Distribution! While his friends were at the discos wearing their Hipster Flares, fringe suede jackets and big collared shirts, Bill Norton was hard at work delivering those “cool threads” to retail locations in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. After driving a truck for a messenger service throughout college, Bill decided to take the world by storm and in 1973, Priority Services, Inc was born. The tried and true method of knocking on doors led Bill to secure the business of Petrie’s Clothing Stores and Wieboldt’s Department Stores located throughout Chicago. From there Bill had a good retail base of business to build upon and the business has rapidly grown ever since. Bill’s hard work, dedication and forward thinking secured him a cozy retirement in Florida in 2000. Having joined her dad at work whenever the opportunity arose, Bill’s daughter, Debbie, “grew up in a truck” and has been a part of the ever-changing world of retail transportation for many years. Debbie’s all grown up now and she and her husband, Jason Riha, assumed the management and responsibility of the company in 2000. Since taking the reins, Debbie and Jason have recognized that the future of retail transportation has less to do with traditional “trucking” and more to do with technology, value-added services and proactive customer service. Priority Services was one of the first local carriers in the country to have an automated sortation system that provided the ability to integrate in-house systems with the latest logistics technology and tailor it according to each customers needs. “Opportunities” are what drive Debbie and Jason as they take Priority well into the 21st century.
