Description

The Professional Women ’s Business Exchange has experienced dynamic growth since their beginning in 1993, when five women started meeting in Walnut Creek. Their goal was to develop a networking group that would support women and help them grow their businesses. The second chapter was established in Lafayette in 1994. The Danville, San Ramon, and Pleasant Hill chapters were created in 1995, 1997, and 1999 respectively. PWBE is exceptionally diverse not only in the types of businesses represented but also in their size and longevity. Former and current members include a Yale-trained psychologist, a doll clothier, as well as several attorneys, graphic artists, CPAs, and a woman who runs her holistic health care business from her home - a sailboat anchored in the bay off of Alameda. PWBE is a nonprofit organization whose goal is to encourage women to support each other in their chosen fields. Their meetings also serve as a forum for the exchange of ideas and information. Each chapter meets bimonthly and most meetings include a presentation by a member about her business. Women have found these regular meetings to be an effective source of leads and referrals. PWBE has continued to grow as an organization because they focus on growing their members ’ businesses.
