Description
For the past year and a half, parent P-L-A-Y has produced superb events that catered to moms, dads and kids. parent P-L-A-Y (P2) events are created with you — and your tot — in mind: Sophisticated — and fun — to help you rejuvenate for three hours while our pre-screened babysitters, the p2 crew, look after your little cutie while they are thoroughly entertained. parent P-L-A-Y events are unique and different. We arrange for interesting authors like Christie Mellor (Three-Martini Playdate) and NY Times’ editor Wendell Jamieson (Father Knows Less) to come by and discuss their books. Or, we’ve partnered with sweet mom & pop shops that we felt you needed to know about and brought them in as a trunk show for one of our brunches. We’ve also had massage therapists at our events working on those stressed out muscles. While your kids excitedly play with our pre-screened babysitters and entertainers like Ruark, Louie and Ryan in a built-out playspace (adjacent party room of a restaurant or a venue), you get a gourmet meal with some well-deserved rest + relaxation, stimulating adult conversation and added amenities (author chats, massage therapists, quality trunk shows) PLUS an expensive gift bag on your way out the door. The result: A family outing without spousal negotiation over who runs after the kids. A win/win for everyone! We cater to both moms and dads so our well-executed events will appeal to their distinct ideas of fun. Parents will leave our events feeling restored and ready to be run ragged once again. After all, who doesn’t need some down time? Lambeth Hochwald and Brian Kaplan Co-Founders, Parent P-L-A-Y For over a decade, Lambeth Hochwald and Brian Kaplan lived on the Upper West Side. When they moved to TriBeCa last year with their two-year old son, Zachary, and dog Ginger, an idea immediately dawned on them. Within days of moving downtown, Hochwald — an adjunct professor of journalism at NYU and a long-time journalist and contributor to such publications as Babytalk, Cookie, Parenting, New York, the New York Post, Marie Claire and Redbook — and Kaplan— the creative force behind Impression PR, a SoHo-based marketing and public relations firm in New York City — were instantly struck by the diversity and friendliness of downtown parents. Charter members of Citibabes, the family club in SoHo, and sleep-deprived zombies, Hochwald and Kaplan wished someone would start organizing events for parents which also included kids. With that goal in mind, Parent P-L-A-Y was born. Lambeth Hochwald Lambeth Hochwald is a freelance journalist and an adjunct professor of journalism at NYU.
