Description
back to Articles & Press Releases Parker Announces “Kosher-Style ” Dining Greater Variety and Cultural Diversity Emphasized, Kosher Still Available Upon Request As of the fall of 2010, Parker Jewish Institute for Health Care and Rehabilitation will offer “Kosher-style ” dining, a departure from its previous tradition of strictly Kosher food service. Kosher meals, prepared under religious supervision, in a separate, new area within Parker ’s main kitchen, will still be available to residents and patients upon request. “We introduced ‘Kosher-style ’ dining in order to increase the variety of dining options, and meet the contemporary tastes of the diverse populations we currently serve, ” said Parker ’s President and CEO, Michael N. Rosenblut. “Located at the Queens-Nassau County border, ” Mr. Rosenblut added, “Parker is central to the most culturally diverse area in the nation, where individuals of all backgrounds prefer the varied menu we will now be able to offer. ” The new “Kosher-style ” cuisine offered at Parker will have certain popular similarities to Kosher food --no pork products or shellfish will be offered, and meat and dairy products will not be served together --but will add flexibility to meal planning and enhance meal satisfaction, while maintaining the same high quality, for which Parker is widely regarded. One of the nation ’s preeminent health care and rehabilitation centers for adults, Parker is known for innovations in post-acute care/sub-acute care, long term care, community health programs, research and teaching. In recent years, the Institute has been at the vanguard of culture change in adult health care, ushering in a new era of patient-centered care in a home-like environment. Among the manifestations of culture change has been Parker ’s introduction of restaurant style “buffet dining, ” giving residents the ability to eat what they want, where they want and with whom they want. Kosher-style meals will be an integral part of changes that meet the lifestyle of today ’s seniors.
