Prior to founding Patent Leverage LLC, Dr. Daniel J. Whittle had over 20 years of technology, product development and manufacturing experience. His corporate responsibilities have included Senior Engineer/Scientist at IBM, President of Cymbolic Sciences and Sr. Vice President of R&D and Manufacturing at Oce Display Graphics Systems responsible for three R&D groups and two manufacturing plants. He has been responsible for operations in the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom. Products and technologies Dan worked with during this period included CRT, LCD, VFD and plasma displays; lasers, LEDs and lamps; photo-detectors and sensors; holographic bar code scanners; electronic packaging and processing; notebook computers; controllers; electromechanical systems; and wide-format digital graphics printers including laser photo-imagers and inkjet printers. He holds patents in laser imaging, three-dimensional photolithography, LCD backlights and high-speed electrical connectors. Growing interest in the strategic business value of intellectual property led Dan to become a registered U.S. Patent Agent in 2003 and begin patent consulting. Since then he has analyzed hundreds of patents and patent applications for technical breadth and applicability, validity risk, infringement risk, design alternatives and commercial valuation as a consultant and testifying expert witness. Dan received a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1982. While a technology development manager at IBM, he became a registered Professional Engineer. He has served as a director and committee chair of public and private firms as well as professional, university advisory and non-profit groups. He is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers , and a member of the Licensing Executives Society , Intellectual Property Owners Association , Optical Society of America , the Society for Imaging Science & Technology , and the Washington Technology Industry Association . Dan supplements his expertise with a network of other consulting professionals for collaboration or direct referral, as appropriate. Consulting services may be structured with hourly or fixed fee billing.
