As a long-time cello teacher, I ’ve worked with beginners ranging from those struggling to play their first pieces to high level conservatory students. I ’ve spent countless hours refining basic techniques so that cellists at every level can improve their sound, intonation, range of expression, etc. - in short, every element of what makes a good cellist. We are sometimes tempted to believe that those at the top were handed certain gifts that eliminated for them the struggles that the rest of us face. In truth, very few people have all those “gifts ”. Almost all the great players had to learn and continually refine the same basic techniques we all use, everyone of which I will discuss in these pages. What I am presenting will help take you, whether you are a beginner or highly advanced player, to those levels that you are aiming for and beyond. It will help you play in a more confident, relaxed way without plain and fatigue. It will greatly increase your joy of playing as well as your success.
