In the chart above, you can see that a producer of renewable energy actually produces two things: electricity and the renewable energy attribute (tracked by RECs). Traditional producers of energy also produce two things: electricity and pollution. We know which system we prefer.

Electricity is not dirty or clean; it is just a collection of charged particles. For that reason, at Pear we do not focus on the actual electricity (it is not the problem); our focus is on the production of electricity, which can be clean or horrendously filthy. Your utility continues to supply you with the electricity; it continues to deliver it over the wires it owns and continues to read your meter and respond to outages. So your utility stays in place for those services, and needs to be paid for that effort.

Lighting use accounts for 12% of your electricity bill, and is one of the most straightforward ways to decrease energy use. Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFL) and Light-Emitting Diode (LED) technology is advancing rapidly, and a diverse range of products are available to meet all the lighting needs in your house.

A grid structure that allows renewable energy producers, especially small producers, to compete in the market place and accommodates distributed energy projects.
