What is a Covered Service Provider? As described in regulations, a Covered Service Provider (CSP) is any entity that receives, or reasonably expects to receive, at least $1,000 or more in compensation (either direct or indirect) in connection with providing certain services to the plan and falls into one (or more) of three categories. CSP1 is a fiduciary who receives a fee for those services from the plan or a registered investment advisor who provides services directly to the plan.
