Millions of men suffer with urinary frequency, urgency, pain with sitting, pain after sex, genital pain and pelvic pain and other symptoms called prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome. I suffered for over 20 years from what was is now diagnosed as prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome. I have specialized in UCPPS for over 15 years, and have been impressed by the educational merits of this book, which provides factual medical information to the patient without exacerbating fears or anxieties. There are many trigger points potentially related to pelvic pain inside and outside the pelvic floor. In our work, trigger points inside and outside the pelvis (taut bands of painful, symptom referring tissue) that re-create someone’s pelvic symptoms must be identified. These pelvic floor related trigger points are illustrated and discussed in detail in the 6th edition of our book, A Headache in the Pelvis. We provide a trigger point map to our patients of all trigger points identified in the evaluation session of our clinic.

When patients have gone through the experience of the flare-up of symptoms and then being able to stop the flare up after self-treatment over and over again, like I did, symptoms are not so scary. One of our most successful patients said that the most exhilarating moment for him in his recover from pelvic pain was not when he pain went away, but when his symptoms flared up after he was pain free, and he was undisturbed because he knew he could resolve the flare up himself. He had been through enough flare-ups to know this for himself.
