Description

Percardia is a mid-stage, venture funded, medical device company dedicated to the development and commercialization of proprietary devices for the treatment of coronary artery disease (CAD). The company's current core technology establishes blood flow from the left ventricle of the heart to the coronary vasculature. The company's technology is intended to provide improvement or relief of angina pectoris, which often results from pre-existing ischemic conditions typically caused by a partial or total blockage of the vessel that significantly restricts the flow of oxygenated blood to the heart muscle.Percardia's first generation device implant is based on a balloon-deployable stainless steel stent, the VPASS™ Implant. The intent of the VPASS™ Implant technology is to provide a "bypass" circuit distal to the lesion or occlusion in the coronary vessel responsible for the patients' angina symptoms. Clinical testing has indicated that the design concept is feasible in both acute and chronic models. The company's current and future development activities are focused on proving the physiological and clinical benefits of this novel revascularization technology.The Company's expects its VPASS™ Implant to be classified as Class III cardiovascular implant requiring Pre-Market Approval (PMA) from the United States Food & Drug Administration and CE Mark in Europe.
