NUDES October 7 to November 20, 2010 Opening Reception Thursday, October 7th 5:30 to 7:30 pm more Jim Stipovich is a successful commercial photographer in the San Francisco Bay Area. As a talented photographer, his work extends naturally well beyond weddings and portraiture; he has a strong fine art portfolio too. When we discussed his exhibit at the early planning stages Jim suggested his Nudes series. Once I saw the entire body of work in his studio I was hooked. Almost entirely shot out-of-doors, Nudes spans three decades in an exploration of light and shape found in the female human form in nature. I invite you to join the Bay Area photo community in viewing and admiring the work of Jim Stipovich. ~Andrea McLaughlin "Very early on I realized that photography for me was using the light available from the sun. Flash and artificial lights, prevalent in photojournalism at the time didn't interest me. The appeal of available lighting and B&W printing has never waned for me, even though for many years this was not commercially popular or necessarily profitable. Now, black and white photographs using natural light fill the editorial and advertising pages of leading publications in all fields. I strive to create vital, direct pictures of people and places, which immediately grab the eye of the viewer. My honest and personable approach produces photographs that hold the viewer's attention and become objects of pride and satisfaction." ~Jim Stipovich map and directions Now reviewing portfolios for exhibitions for 2011 / 2012 The Photolab Gallery is a not for profit gallery space made available to selected photographers to show-case and sell their work. The Gallery provides the San Francisco Bay Area with an opportunity to expand its exposure to current excellent photographic work and local artists and to buy directly from the artists The Photolab Gallery has shown over 135 exhibits since 1991, featuring the work of over 125 photo-graphers including several artists who have been invited to show more than once. Many photographers who have shown in the Gallery have gone on to be represented by professional art galleries and stock agencies. Want to have a show with us? Great! We'd love to talk to you. But you've got three things to do first (if you haven't done them already): 1. Visit the Gallery in person to get a feel for our space and style and take a look at the current work on exhibit. 2. Sign up on the mailing list and come to at least one artist's reception. 3. Read the exhibition application to get familiar with our guidelines, fees and requirements. Most photographers contact us by email to receive an application and set up an portfolio review. Portfolios can also be submitted by mail in the form of cds or dvds, slides. We'll want to see your web site too. Do you have an exhibit idea? Pitch it to us! We are especially looking for groups of photographers who want to exhibit together. We also have 2 openings right now for photographers who want to be paired with another one or two photographers with compatible work in order to exhibit together. Portfolio Reviews Portfolios are usually reviewed on Saturday mornings by appointment only.
