Description
PPFA and the PPFA Chapter Relations Committee have announced the creation of the Vivian C. Kistler MCPF Scholarship Program. The scholarship will honor the accomplishments and memory of framing expert, educator, and author Vivian Kistler, MCPF, GCF, a long-time member and supporter of the PPFA and a former columnist for PFM. The scholarship program will provide financial assistance to PPFA members who wish to take the Master Certified Picture Framer examination. Under the program, two individuals will be selected each year to receive a scholarship for the MCPF examination and a stipend up to $500 for framing and travel expenses. Each scholarship has an estimated value of $900. Applications for the first scholarship must be received no later than June 1, 2011 to be considered for scholarships awarded during PPFA 2011. To download an application, visit the PPFA website. Wizard Creates Visualization Software Camera Wizard International has launched a new product, the Wizard Wink camera, that is designed to work with the company's Integrated Framer Visualization software to allow customers to see their framed artwork in seconds. “The camera is easy to use, produces high-quality images, and blends into the background at the sales counter,” says Mark Wilkie, Wizard's vice president of product development and manufacturing. The Wizard Wink is the only camera engineered specifically for the picture framing industry. It's a five megapixel unit that features a high-quality glass lens and built-in IR filter to improve image quality and enhance natural light. The camera connects to IF Visualization software and features a quick one-time calibration process to produce correct colors. D&K Launches New Brand D&K group has announced the launch of a new brand for its recently acquired Bienfang framing products. The Expression brand will include all framing products and accessories formerly sold under the Bienfang name. The products will maintain their current part numbers and pricing and can be purchased from D&K's Statesville, NC, facility. Expression products include mechanical and vacuum presses, dry mount adhesive tissues, overlaminating films, and framing accessories. The brand is currently used by D&K in conjunction with its existing line of wide format laminating equipment and overlaminating films. The products have been successfully used in the field for years to protect, preserve, and perfect such images as photographs, fine art prints, important documents, and more. Students Recognized in The Great Frame Up Contest High school students Sean Guenette and Julie Storrs were recognized as national winners in The Creative Self-Expression sponsored by The Great Frame Up, a custom framing and art retailer. In September, each winner was presented with a $2000 scholarship by actress/artist Jane Seymour, spokeswoman for The Great Frame Up Foundation. The students submitted entries to their local The Great Frame Up stores where they were judged by a panel of local art professionals and displayed for the community.
