If a company wants to attract customers and, more importantly, repeat customers, they first need to capture their attention with solid and aesthetically-pleasing design. Short, easy to remember, and descriptive of the brand, products, or services are the important elements to keep in mind when choosing a domain name. Once that is set, a business needs a solid navigational plan. There are a number of free website services available that provide templates for small businesses to use. These can be great, as long as the business owner makes sure that the internal navigation between pages is simple for the end user. Quick loading times are vitally important in this age of microsecond browsing decisions. Clean, clear color palettes and font choices also aid in this. If it takes more than a second for the viewer to see anything from the jumble of color, shapes, and fonts on the page, then they become a lost sale. Lastly, good design is nothing without good substance to back it up. Designing a beautiful site may result in lots of visits to see the cool graphics or noteworthy photos, but the purpose of the website is sales and if the design doesn’t contribute to the bottom line, the design is worthless.
