While The Big One has found a new home in Little Narragansett Bay, Speedy the Turtle is still keeping an eye on Pine Point students, just as he has been for over 30 years. Most recently, Speedy has been part of the 2nd graders’ world.
About the Teachers : Lou Toscano has taught Kindergarten at Pine Point since 1989, and earned both his B.A. and M.A. from University of Rhode Island. Laurie Mortrude has over two decades of experience working with Lower School students. A graduate of Lesley College, she has been employed at Pine Point since 1988.
One of the defining characteristics of the program at Pine Point is the close interaction between the teachers and their students. From preschool through the 9th grade, the children work closely with a talented group of individuals dedicated to developing the children’s intellectual, social, and emotional growth.
Mrs. Butler has over 16 years of experience in education. These areas include early childhood, curriculum development, licensing of facilities, implementing National Association for Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation standards and providing professional development for teachers. She is a graduate of University of Connecticut and earned her master's degree from Sacred Heart University. Mrs. Butler is also an educational consultant for several preschool programs including those at Mystic Aquarium, Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center, and the Global Child School.
Like Adam, you are part of Pine Point’s ever-expanding family. To date, 498 members of that family–alumni, current and past parents, grandparents, and friends–have made gifts and pledges to the Annual Fund totaling over $312,000! As mentioned two weeks ago, no single gift got us to this historic point; it was the contributions of 498 individuals, families, businesses, and foundations that made gifts that directly impact the experience of the 238 students who are at Pine Point finishing up another remarkable year working with a group of marvelously talented and dedicated teachers.
