Nasa Awarded the Exceptional Service Medal NASA awarded the Exceptional Public Service Medal to Robb Pinkerton for his work as the Gamma-Ray Large Area Space Telescope (GLAST), now renamed the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope, technical program manager. This recognition was for his outstanding contributions to the development, integration, testing and on-orbit activation of the GLAST observatory. The NASA Exceptional Public Service Medal is only awarded to 1 contractor person in 1000 and only five were awarded to contractors at the June 3rd ceremony. Additionally, the GLAST Team, which Pinkerton provided technical leadership, was presented a Public Service Group Achievement Award in recognition of its outstanding contributions to the development and activation of Fermi. Since the launch a year ago today, Fermi has continuously mapped and provided data on Gamma-ray sources in the universe, and it has spotted the brightest ever gamma-ray burst and created an unprecedented clear view of the gamma ray sky.
