If you find it in your heart to care for somebody else, you will have succeeded. ~Maya Angelou Christina J. Bennett created Planet Birth Childbirth Services in 2004 and has attended births since 1999. She received her Birth Doula training from DONA International in January 2005 and July 2010. Christina holds a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and a minor and certificate in Latin American Studies from the University of Florida and has studied abroad in Honduras, Peru, and Costa Rica to expand her knowledge of indigenous and multi-cultural birthing customs and uses these and many other techniques when she helps expectant families plan and prepare for their birth. Currently, she is an aspiring pre-nursing student hoping to pursue a career as a Certified Nurse Midwife. Christina is also one of the “Founding Mothers” and Facilitator of the Birth Resource Network of Gainesville (BRiNG) , a budding non-profit organization of childbirth professionals dedicated to providing pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding resources to growing families in Gainesville and Alachua County and through education, community outreach and advocacy, BRiNG strives to create a safe and nurturing community for women giving birth. She also volunteers with the Arbor House of Gainesville, a shelter for homeless pregnant women and new mothers. In addition to doula services, Christina also offers childbirth education, breastfeeding support, bellycasting, aromatherapy, and information on basic newborn and postpartum care. Christina’s goal as a doula is to create an atmosphere for a new mother that encourages her to make positive, empowering, and informed choices for herself and her baby, so that we may breed a world of tolerance, peace, and love. Christina spent her childhood growing up between Florida, Costa Rica, and Panama and speaks English and Spanish fluently. Her passions include traveling to Latin American countries, advocating for women's reproductive rights, and promoting gender equality and social justice. She lives in Gainesville, FL with her daughter and her two dogs.
