Oklahoma City, OK -- Posters from the Oklahoma Poison Control Center will be on display Oct. 9 through 12 at the North American Congress of Clinical Toxicology Conference in Denver. The posters provide an educational opportunity for clinical toxicologists to share current trends and patient management changes in poisoning exposures. Clinical supervisor, Randy Badillo, physician''s assistant Kimberly Hovseth, and Scott Schaeffer, assistant managing director of the Oklahoma Poison Control Center – authors of the poster "My Imagination''s Acting Funny – Pediatric Adverse Reaction to Pramoxine" – will be present at the conference to provide information and answer questions regarding their unique experiences in managing patient exposure to this common local anesthetic. Lee McGoodwin, managing director of the center, also will present her poster "Trends in Health Care Utilization of Poison Control Center Services," which illustrates that changes in technology have not resulted in a decline in poison center utilization by health care professionals. Scientific poster presentations are important for sharing knowledge in a field where it would be unethical to conduct randomized controlled scientific studies. Schaeffer will participate in a platform presentation to discuss a case involving the mercury poisoning of a toddler. The case appeared on the television program "Mystery ER in 2008" on the Discovery Health Channel. In addition, he will participate in the Specialist in Poison Information Roundtable where he will spotlight the Oklahoma Poison Control Center and discuss poison center operations.
