Powerstation was founded in February 1983 by two friends who shared the same ideas. Al Vagnini and Jon March grew up in musical families and were fortunate to have supportive teachers in school. Both had extremely diverse knowledge of music, a love of audio and video systems, and a passion for perfection.Al's father, Mario Vagnini, was a popular musician and vocalist in the Connecticut social & swing band circuit. Jon's mother was active in many theater programs and his neighbor, Tommy Mars (famous for playing with Frank Zappa), helped him start his first band in 1969.Shortly after founding Powerstation, they began attracting talented DJs and at one point had 14 nightclubs, some of the clubs having Powerstation DJs four nights per week. Much of this success was directly related to their extensive knowledge of sound, lighting and video equipment. More than DJs, they were sought out for their technical expertise, which gave them an advantage in the industry.
