Monica Biscoe, Public Affairs Specialist 301.583.4622, Mbiscoebrooks@pgcedc.com Government, and corporate sectors represented by Holman, Walker and others (LANDOVER, MD) – The Prince George’s Community Foundation (PGCF) announced today the appointment of three new officers, and two new advisory board members, in a move that further strengthens the Foundation’s leadership on important community issues, and local and regional giving. The Prince George’s Community Foundation is a regional affiliate of The Community Foundation for the National Capital Region. “We are thrilled to welcome our new officers and advisory board members,” said Desiree Griffin-Moore, PGCF Executive Director. “Prince George’s County is experiencing dynamic new growth and investment, and our new leadership will help us expand the Foundation’s reach throughout Prince George’s County helping to ensure a strong nonprofit community.” The following individuals have been appointed officers: --Kerry G. (Kwasi) Holman, President and CEO, The Prince George’s County Economic Development Corporation, PGCF Chair Mr. Holman is an experienced executive with broad experience in management legislative affairs, policy analysis, banking, economic development, fundraising, and marketing. Mr. Holman’s previous positions include Senior Vice President, National Bank of Washington; Executive Director of the D.C. Office of Business and Economic Development; Chairman of the D.C. Redevelopment Land Agency; and various senior policy positions in legislative and executive branches with responsibility for major policy issues concerning land use, development, finance, development of convention centers and industrial parks. He is Past Executive Director of the Ellington Fund, a nonprofit organization which raises funds to support educational programs in the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. Mr. Holman also managed the Holman Group, a small business consulting firm. --Monique Anderson Walker, NAI Michael, PGCF Vice Chair A licensed real estate agent in Maryland and Washington, DC, Walker is an Associate with NAI Michael, one of the largest commercial real estate companies in the Washington region. Walker is a waterfront specialist and one of the top salespersons in The Fort Washington area. In addition, Walker holds 15 years of media relations and marketing experience, coalition-building and leadership in community-based volunteer service organizations. She serves as a member of the Prince George’s County Chapter of the Links, Incorporated, where she co-chairs The Links Health Partnership, a coalition of 10 community partners that host health seminars throughout Prince George’s County. Her community involvement also includes the Sky Walker Flight School Football Camp in Fort Washington, a youth development program enabling 150 metropolitan-area high school-aged boys to live as student/athletes in a dormitory on the campus of Bowie State University. She holds a M.A in Political Science from Howard University and a B.A. in International Studies from Emory University in Atlanta, GA. --Howard W. Stone, Jr. Prince George’s County Council Office of Audits and Investigations, PGCF Secretary/Treasurer Mr. Stone began his career with Prince George’s County in 1976, and over a span of 20 years, served in several prominent positions in the Executive and Legislative branches of government as well as a member of the Prince George’s County Board of Education. In addition, he served as Legislative Assistant to Congressman Steny Hoyer (D-MD); Executive Director of the Prince George’s Hospital Center Foundation; Public Affairs Officer for Dimensions Health Corporation; and Community Relations Manager for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. Howard Stone also served as Chief of Staff to former County Executive Wayne K. Curry, and was subsequently named Chief Administrative Officer. Mr. Stone is active in numerous civic and professional organizations, including Leadership Washington, Council of Govenments, and the Greater Washington Board of Trade. He also served as President of the Prince George’s Community Foundation from 2000-03. Mr. Stone received a B.A. in Political Science from Rutgers College, and a M.P.A. from the American University Graduate School of Government and Public Administration. The following are new members of the PGCF Advisory Board: Betty Hager Francis Betty Hager Francis is founder and president of Hager Management Group LLC, a management consulting firm which specializes in business development, organizational management, and development of strategic solutions to complex business issues for public and private sector clients. Ms. Francis has enjoyed a 20-year career as a leader in the operational aspects of infrastructure development and management, and is recognized for her skill in strategic planning, team-building, project development and implementation, financial and asset management. A Washington, DC native, she earned her B.A. from Howard University and her Juris Doctor degree from Suffolk University Law School in Boston. Ms. Francis has served as a member of the American Public Works Association; County Engineers Association of Maryland; and the board of directors, Family Crisis Center of Prince George’s County, among others. -- A. Shuanise Washington A. Shuanise Washington is the Founder and Sole Principal of Washington Group, LLC, which provides business consulting services for small, medium and large businesses, governments and nonprofit organizations. Ms. Washington is the former Vice President of Government Affairs, Policy & Outreach for Altria Corporate Services. Throughout her career she has pursued entrepreneurship focused on building generational wealth and utilizing her skills to uplift her community. She holds a B.S. in Humanities and Social Sciences from the University of South Carolina, and a Cognate in mathematics. Ms. Washington is a member of the board of directors of the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation; Congressional Black Caucus Foundation; White Rose Foundation, Incorporated; The Future PAC; and The Links, Incorporated Through grant-making and leadership on critical community issues, The Prince George’s Community Foundation, a regional affiliate of The Community Foundation for the National Capital Region, has fostered charitable giving and positive social change in Prince George’s County, MD since 1994 Founded in 1973, The Community Foundation for the National Capital Region promotes charitable giving, and plays a leading role in finding innovative solutions to the Greater Washington region’s most challenging problems. The Foundation is a community of givers – individuals, families and corporations have joined with the Foundation; as a result, the Foundation provides sound management of some 700 funds and $320 million in assets. In FY2008, The Community Foundation and its donors awarded more than $91 million in grants to nonprofit organizations in the Washington, DC region and beyond.
